Is Atomic Design dead?

Over the last decade, design systems have taken the world of digital design and development by storm. Along the way, Brad invented a methodology called Atomic Design that serves as a mental model for thinking about user interfaces as interconnected, hierarchical systems.

In this talk, Brad will reflect on the past, present, and future of design systems and answer the questions: Is atomic design still relevant? Should there be a Global Design System? How might AI impact the world of design systems?

Brad is giving this talk on day three, June 20th

Day three focuses on Design Ops and Design Systems.

The Design System ecosystem

We tend to talk about "the design system" as a singular entity. But the reality is that design systems are made up of many parts, and also exist as a part of an organization's broader user interface ecosystem.

In this workshop, Brad will unpack the many layers of the design system layer cake and show how all of these moving pieces fit together in order to deliver sturdy user interfaces to digital products and help teams work better together.

Along the way, Brad will share many practical techniques for architecting design systems in design, code, and documentation, and will share hard-earned lessons from creating design systems for some of the world's largest companies.
